One offs

Striped Ming is a contemporary take on traditional porcelain vessels, transforming the original glazed surface into a new striped pattern, using a technique inspired by the traditional resist-dyeing technique often applied to colour fabric patterns such as Batik. Existing porcelain pieces are masked with the new striped motif, which are then sandblasted, so that the areas protected are preserved, while the original glaze sections from exposed areas are erased, revealing the white bisque porcelain beneath.

The original porcelain vessels are sourced from old shops and thrift stores, they usually lie on dust filled shelves as dead-stock, once decorative and sought after, but now forlorned by shifts in contemporary aesthetics. Striped Ming is a revitalised porcelain collection that makes over unfashionable decoratives deemed for waste, resuscitating their value and relevance in contemporary design.
