  • Herons on Vase

A terracotta series commissioned by the National Gallery Singapore in an edition of 5. Inspired by Chen Wen Hsi’s masterpiece Herons, the abstract forms of the birds have been translated into repeatable patterns and sand blasted on the vase using the resist blasting technique.

While informed by Cubism, Chen Wen His was also rooted in the Chinese ink painting tradition. Although Herons was created near the end of his life, its brush strokes bear much vitality and spontaneity --two essential qualities of Chinese ink brushwork.
